About me
I have recently returned to freelance creative practice, following redundancy of full time employment, having worked for many years in arts events coordination and management in Cornwall and Wales. I trained in Spatial Design with a specialism in theatre design and illustration. I have also trained in Integrative Arts and Health with a history of designing and facilitating community art workshops in a range of locations including festivals, museums, play schemes and community centres. I have also performed as an extra in short films and community theatre productions. The main focus of my personal creative practice has been documenting performance through drawing and painting – using traditional methods and digital art. I work in the moment, speed sketching and capturing the energy and movement. I transform some of these sketches into short films with audio. I have, however, done a variety of art work over the years including scenic art, murals, mask making, model making etc. I have a wide skills base and learn quickly and will give anything a go! I can also teach with limited instruction on a process beforehand.
Examples

I would love to work with Wildworks. Now in my early 50s, I am at a point in my life where I am ready to immerse myself back into creative practice. Life’s too short to not do what you were born to do! Redundancy and bereavement has taught me that. I love stories. Listening and pulling them out of people. I have strong Celtic roots (Welsh born with Cornish roots) brought up in the countryside with a strong connection to place. I want to connect deeply with the land I have chosen to call home, to raise my child until he flies. I need something to anchor me and feed me and I believe I have all the skills within me to contribute in a wonderful way, alongside a fellow tribe.
Availability
I am available for the residency dates. I am open to working with different communities. One idea I had was to work with memory cafes and people living with dementia. Their voices and stories need to be heard and their connection to past needs to be valued and shared and mingled with the present and future.
I am based in Truro.
I look forward to hearing from you. I’m ready!
It has been hard to pick just 5 images. I have chosen to show some examples of community work and some sketches. I moved house last week and my boxes of photographs from my more theatrical work (3D stuff) are buried!
